From The Archives: Alexander Wang

Season: Spring 2008 RTW

I have to admit, this collection slipped by me almost a year ago. I had been paying too much attention to Lagerfeld and Galliano that I forgot to check out some of the new-comers.

Though Alexander Wang's debut was his Fall 2007 RTW (which was also spectacular), I chose to focus on this collection. It has that certain je ne sais quoi. It is the epitome of cool, which comes as no surprise as the designer himself is only 23.
He knows what the models like to wear (and let's face it, the models are the ones everyone should be following) and he's able to translate that into something we less-than modelesque followers can pull off.

It's NYC cool, meets 80's power suit - perfect for looking professional, but still like you had just thrown anything on.

I don't care if this collection is "so two seasons ago".
THIS is what I'll be wearing this coming Spring; blazers with sleeves cramped up to elbows à la 80's Miami Vice, ripped denim cutoffs, men's shirts tucked into loose jeans rolled slightly above the ankles, thin belts over shirt-dresses, and heels with black socks.

The main thing I love about it: it doesn't look beachy.

Rock on.
